The Norwegians Slomosa hit Greensboro, NC, as part of their first-ever US tour. Though the band has been around for 10 years - making them mere youngsters by metal standards - they still managed to pack Hangar 1819 on a random Tuesday night. This is an impressive feat for a European group with almost no support (the California pop-punks The Mainliners opened, but they sounded like every other band in the genre).
Despite the guitarist performing with a broken leg, the sound was excellent - thick, heavy, and immersive. The venue did a great job with the lighting, perfectly capturing the «tundra rock» vibe.
What happened at the show:
Pro-Palestine rhetoric that prompted a Palestinian flag to appear in the crowd.
Cautious criticism of the Trump administration from the perspective of «enlightened Europe».
Selective blindness: the typical silence from these circles regarding the bloody war between Russia and Ukraine.
It seems Slomosa is made up of typical European anti-Semites who only acknowledge the tragedies that fit their worldview. Nevertheless, the band’s drive and potential are massive. One can only hope that as they grow in popularity, they also smarten up a bit.
