Lithuanian sociologists have recorded an increase in intolerance towards newcomers who do not speak Lithuanian. A large poll conducted at the end of 2023 at the initiative of the Institute of Sociology of the Lithuanian Social Science Center revealed that 22% of Lithuanians would not like to live next to foreigners who do not speak Lithuanian (a year earlier this figure was 11%). Moreover, 34% of Lithuanians do not want to work next to foreign-speaking people. And 47% of the polled Lithuanians spoke out against all kinds of fugitives who settled in Lithuania. Today, more than half of Lithuanians, including those in power, have a negative attitude towards the Belarusian opposition.
